The colour temperature of any light source is determined by comparing its hue with a theoretically perfect black-body radiator. The light source’s colour temperature is the same as the thermal temperature that the black-body radiator must be heated to in order for the two to emit radiation with the same hue. The apparent colour temperature of a light source does not refer to the thermal temperature of anything other than the theoretical black-body radiator. If this all sounds very complicated, it is probably easier to think of it this way.
